LATAM Levels Up: Why Indie Publishers Should Be Watching Brazil

Latin America is fast becoming one of the most dynamic games markets in the world, and one Fireshine Games is watching closely.

We recently attended Gamescom LATAM, an event at the heart of this momentum. Held in São Paulo in partnership with the BIG Festival, it welcomed over 130,000 visitors in 2025, a 30% increase from the previous year. While designed with players in mind, the event is gaining serious B2B traction, drawing over 3,000 games professionals and more than 40 major publishers including the likes off Sega and Roblox to Nintendo and Bandai Namco.  We partnered with Nvidia to bring A.I.L.A to both consumers and a high number of games media with 57 impressions of the demo from the show itself and an additional 100 articles around the event.

This year’s showcase featured 400+ playable games, but what truly stood out was the energy behind the region’s independent development scene. Brazil is leading the charge, not only home to LATAM’s largest gaming audience, but also a hungry, creative indie community.  A standout example is Pulsatrix Studios, the São Paulo-based team behind the psychological horror hit Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel. Their upcoming title A.I.L.A, built in Unreal Engine 5, continues their genre-defining approach to horror storytelling. Notably, MaxMRM, one of Brazil’s top content creators, is working as creative director on the game, showing how developer-influencer collaborations can boost community engagement and visibility from day one.

Fireshine Games is proud to partner with both Pulsatrix Studios and MaxMRM, and we’re now sponsoring LATAM showcases to help elevate more of this incredible talent. Not only because it deserves recognition, but because it signals where the future of indie success may lie. This weekend, A.I.L.A was featured in their showcase during Summer Game Fest, which highlighted over 50 indie titles from the region. A.I.L.A saw strong results in both media coverage and wishlists. Brazilian gamers are deeply passionate about locally made games and are eager to become powerful advocates, helping to bring greater visibility to these projects.

Why LATAM Matters for Indies

The LATAM games market is projected to reach $20.31 billion by 2025 (Statista), with more than 286 million players expected by 2029. Whilst mobile leads the way, driven by low data costs and high smartphone adoption, there is a growing opportunity for PC and console titles, especially those with social or competitive elements rooted in local culture.

It’s a young, deeply engaged audience that lives on social media, ideal for influencer-driven discovery and organic virality. Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina dominate in player numbers, but fast-growing communities in Chile and Peru are worth watching.

Of course, there are challenges. Payment systems are fragmented, credit card usage is low, and import taxes, especially on hardware, remain high. But developers are adapting through digital distribution, mobile wallets, and culturally localized experiences. The ones who succeed do so by thinking local: partnering with regional studios, embracing cultural nuance, and investing in long-term trust.
